Oak Grove Cemetery

Location: Roughly halfway between Newberg and Gaston, Oregon

This quaint cemetery is very well cared for, as I could see the grass was recently mowed and the trees were regularly trimmed. As the name states, there are several old oaks that grow throughout the cemetery. The weather was serene when I visited in July of 2024, as you get views of empty fields and a slightly higher elevation than the surrounding areas.

This place is easy to miss if you aren't actively looking for it- there is no signage off of Bald Peak Road, you can easily drive by Oak Grove Lane without noticing. It also looks like a private drive, but it absolutely is not. There are old logging areas down the steep gravel road, with cutoffs I was curious about visiting but decided against.

Once you are down the hill, the sky opens up and you will see a large house that is very much occupied. Down the road and to the left, you will see the sign for the cemetery. I parked at the north side where you can pull off, as I did not want to block the road for the residents of the area. At the sign there is a directory of all that are buried there- several generations of family that have made claim to the local area. There are still active burials here, and it is registered with the state for protection.

As for precautions, aside from the gravel road going down to the cemetery, please be respectful of the landowners in the area. While I'm sure they are used to visitors, it is good to keep it that way so access is not cut off.
